Virginian-Pilot October 9, 1944
James Haines Johnston, aged 70, husband of Mrs. Louise Pannill Johnston and son of 
the late Charles H. and Mrs. Sally Williams Johnston, died at a local hospital 
yesterday at 6:45 a.m. A native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, he resided at 
1400 Hampton boulevard at the time of his death.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Louise Pannill Johnston, he is survived by one daughter, 
Mrs. John Ball, of Newport News, and two sisters, Mrs. R. E. Jordan, of Virginia 
Beach, and Miss Anna E. Johnston, of Norfolk.
Funeral services will be conducted at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Tuesday 
at 10:30 a. m. by the Rev. Taylor Willis, D.D., rector of Christ and St. Luke's 
Church. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
