Inc. shipping firm, died Thursday at 4:30 p.m. He was stricken at work in the Royster Building. The husband of Mrs. Rita Hartwell Johnston, he resided at 927 Harrington Ave. A lifelong resident of Norfolk, he was graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, and joined the Funch, Edye firm in 1920. He was a member of the Norfolk-Portsmouth Traffic Club, the Ryan Club, Princess Anne Country Club, Norfolk Lodge 38, B. P. 0. Elks, the Virginia Club and the 29th Division Assn. Inc. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Besides his wife, surviving are one son, Maj. Thomas Joseph Johnston Jr, USMC, Quantico; two sisters, Miss Mary Olive Johnston and Mrs. Elizabeth Powers, both of Norfolk; three brothers, John Hubert Johnston of Norfolk, the Rev. Fr. E. W. Johnston of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Lawrence V. Johnston of Cradock; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments.
