Virginian Pilot January 21, 1998

Martha Freeman Johnston, 66, of the 4500 block of Tee Court, died Jan. 20, 1998, 
in a local hospital.
Mrs. Johnston was a native of Norfolk, and was the daughter of the late William 
Tudor Freeman and Olive Herbert Freeman. She was a member of All Saints 
Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach and a former member of the Church of the Good 
Shepherd, Norfolk. Mrs. Johnston was a former member of the Junior League of 
Norfolk and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Ross Johnston of Virginia Beach; a 
daughter, Ellen Johnston Travelstead and her husband, Jack, of Toano, Va.; a 
son, Richard Landon Johnston of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Constance Freeman 
Griffin of Norfolk, Jeanne Freeman Roper and her husband, George, of Norfolk; 
her brother-in-law, Edward C. Johnston and his wife, Betty Lou, of Norfolk.
A Chapel service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apts., Norfolk, by the Rev. Stanley W. Sawyer and the Rev. Jeff Heath. Burial 
will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
