Virginian Pilot March 7, 2000

Callista Hickman Johnston, 83, of the 200 block of Peachwood Lane, died March 5, 
2000, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Norfolk and was the daughter of the late Mary Bright 
Hickman and George H. Hickman. She was the widow of James Brooks Johnston. She 
was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Johnston 
was preceded in death by her two brothers, Carlton Hickman and Jack Hickman.
Survivors include her sons, John W. Johnston of Virginia Beach and Leslie R. 
Phalen and his wife, Judy A. Phalen, of Boca Raton, Fla.; her brother, Hunter 
and his wife, Helen Hickman, of Norfolk; her sister-in-law, Lucille Hickman, of 
Virginia Beach; and her grandson, Patrick Phalen.
A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas 
Catholic Church by Msgr. Raymond Barton. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, 
Norfolk. The family will receive friends Wednesday in the H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apts. Laskin Road Chapel from 7 to 8 p.m.
