Norfolk Virginian Pilot January 26, 1942

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Johnston, aged 77, widow of Edward William Johnston, and 
daughter of the late Burwell and Mrs. Olive Flora Mathias, died last night at 
8:45 o'clock. she was a native of Currituck County, N.C. and a resident of 
Norfolk for the past 70 years, residing at 927 Harrington Avenue at the time of 
her death. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sodality of 
the Blessed Virgin of that church. Surviving are two daughters, Misses Mary 
Olive and Elizabeth Johnston, both of Norfolk; four sons, the Rev. Edward W. 
Johnston, of Arlington; J. Hubert Johnston, of Norfolk; Capt. Thomas Joseph 
Johnston, U.S.A. and Lawrence V. Johnston, of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren and 
a number of nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, 
pending arrangements.

JOHNSTON, MARY ELIZABETH - Sunday, January 25, 1942, at 8:45 o'clock p.m.,  MARY 
ELIZABETH, widow of Edward William Johnston and daughter of the late Burwell and 
Olive Flora Johnston, in the 78th year of her age. 
Remains will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, No. 1501 Colonial 
Avenue, to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, for services WEDNESDAY MORNING at 10 
o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary's 
Cemetery.
