Johnson (sic), a well known ex-confederate, died at Savannah Ga., Saturday night. Captain Johnson was seventy-eight years old. He was the ranking officer of the survivors of the Confederate navy and the senior survivor of the United States navy of antebellum days. He entered the United States navy as midshipman in 1832. At the outbreak of the war he was on the list of First Lieutenants, but cast his lot with the Confederacy. In 1863, he was assigned to duty with Admiral Buchanan on Mobile Bay, where he commanded the Iron clad Tennessee in the famous battle with the Federal fleet, under Farragut. Captain Johnson married in this city many years ago, his wife being a Miss Parker. At the time of his death he was Vice President of the Confederate Veteran Association of Savannah. At the request of that Association, Pickett- Buchanan Camp of this city will escort his remains to the cemetery, a call for a meeting of the Camp at 9:45 o'clock this morning for that purpose appearing in other column.
