Grant Jones, 70, Negro, of 1424 Ann Street, died yesterday at 6:15 p.m. at Norfolk Community Hospital after an illness of 10 days. Dr. Jones was born in Petersburg, and had practiced medicine here for 35 years. His office was at 355 Bute Street. His parents were Robert J. and Mrs. Elizabeth Osborn Jones. He was a graduate of Union University, Richmond, and of Leonard Medical College, and Shaw University, both Raleigh, N.C. He was a member of the Bute Street Baptist Church, and of its choir. He was on the staff of the Norfolk Community Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie L. Jones; one daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Rupert, of Washington; two sons, Ulysses S. Grant, Jr., of Englewood, N.J., and Burton Jones, of Washington; one sister, Mrs. Rosabell Harley, of Washington; six grandchildren, and five nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Bute Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
