NORFOLK — Col. Arthur P. Jones, 75, president of the Jones Warehouse Corp, of 
Norfolk, died Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in Norfolk General Hospital after a lengthy 
illness.
Col. Jones, an Army veteran of World Wars I and II, had been a lifelong resident 
of Norfolk, residing at 418 Mowbray Arch at the time of his death.
After service in the Army Quartermaster Corp. in Le Havre, France, during World 
War I, Col. Jones succeeded his father, the late Walter H. Jones, as president 
of the Norfolk warehouse firm founded by his father in 1880.
Col. Jones was a graduate of Yale University and had served as chairman of the 
Civilian Advisory Board to the Commanding General of the Second United States 
Army until his death.
                              Varied Enterprises
A member of the Portsmouth Terminal Committee of the American Warehouseman's 
Assn., and president for many years of the Tidewater Warehouseman's Assn., he 
built many warehouse plants in Norfolk, including the Jones Cold Storage plant 
on Water street.
Col. Jones sold the cold storage operation several years ago and, until his 
death, dealt in merchandise warehousing.
He was a member of the Virginia Club, the Isaac Walton League, the Princess Anne 
Country Club, the Lynch Post of the American Legion and the Bay Colony Club at 
Virginia Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Minor Jones; one daughter, Mrs. Henry 
J. Macon, Norfolk; two brothers, Barham Jones, Norfolk, and Kenneth S. Jones, 
Aberdeen, Md., and several nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments.
                                 DEATHS
JONES, COL. ARTHUR P. - At a local hospital, Sunday, November 2, 1958, at 8:45 
p.m., COL. ARTHUR P. JONES, husband of Mrs. Virginia Minor Jones and son of the 
late Walter H. and Mrs. Florence Swank Jones, in the 76th year of his age. 
Remains will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial 
Avenue, to the First Presbyterian Church for services THIS (Tuesday) at 12 
o'clock NOON. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, Elmwood 
Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.
