Gordon Cowley Jones, 70, of 500 Copeland Drive, the owner since 1975 of the Great Bridge Book Store, died Thursday in his home. He was a native of Scammon, Kan., and the husband of Anna Lindsey Jones. He was a graduate of the Citadel and had retired from the Army after a 30-year career. He held a master’s degree from Old Dominion University and was the author of four books. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Great Bridge, and had served on its vestry for several years. He also was a member of the advisory board of the Chrysler Museum, Norfolk County Historical Society of Chesapeake, and Currituck Historical Society of Currituck, N.C. Survivors include a daughter, Starr J. Greenberg of Chesapeake; two sons, L. Lindsey Jones of Norfolk and Morgan B. Jones of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mrs. Wayne W. Weast of Iola, Kan.; two brothers, F.M. Jones of Kent, Ohio, and C. Stuart Jones of Anderson, Mo.; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church by the Rev. Gladstone Adams III. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, with Gay & Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, in charge. Memorial donations may be made to the Chrysler Museum Library Fund or a favorite charity.
