The apartment was filled with illuminating gas from a stove in the kitchen. The body was found when firemen broke into the apartment and after escaping gas had been detected in the building. A fire pulmotor squad tried for an hour to revive the victim. Deputy Fire Chief R. H. Ripley said three jets of the stove were turned on and all windows in the apartment were down. Members of the pulmotor squad raised a window to find two birds alive in a cage, sitting just outside the window. The body was viewed by Dr. C. D. J. Macdonald, city coroner, who said last night he was not prepared to give a verdict in the death, pending further investigation. Mrs. Jones, a daughter of the late Everett and Florida Raleigh Robbins, was a native of Norfolk and resided here most of her life. She was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church. Surviving her are a sister, Mrs. Everett Vandalia Byrd, of Freehold, N.J., a brother, Elwood Lawrence Robbins, of Norfolk, and a nephew, William A. Browder, also of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted in the James V. Derry Funeral Chapel tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
