Ralph Jones, 77, retired cotton broker, a 1944 candidate for Norfolk City Council, died Monday at 7:45 p.m. in his home, 902 Greenway Court. Phases of the city government were investigated as a result of his criticisms during the 1944 councilman campaign. He publicly attacked tax policies of the council and otherwise was a critic of Norfolk's government. He was a regular contributor of letters to the editors of The Virginian-Pilot and Ledger-Star. In 1948, he was president of the Stassen-for-President Club here. A lifelong Norfolk resident, he was a son of Thomas A. and L. Savage Jones and the husband of Mrs. Louise Hunter Jones. He attended Virginia Military Institute and the University of Virginia. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Norfolk Elks Lodge 34. Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Miss Louise Hunter Jones of Washington, D.C.; a son, T. Ralph Jones Jr. of Wichita, Kan.; and two grandchildren. The body was taken to H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. The family requested that flowers be omitted.
