She had been a member of the Lamberts Point First Baptist Church for 49 years, having joined there upon the invitation of Deacon Paul Holmes, when she was a new resident of that section. Her funeral was held at that church Sunday at 1 p.m. Upon the invitation of the present pastor, the Rev. M. C. Southerland, the Rev. J. Jasper Freeman, pastor of Queen Street Baptist Church, and former pastor of the Lamberts Point church who was completely familiar with the life lived by the deceased, participated in the funeral services. Dr. Freeman eulogized her personally as a church woman, mother and true Christian, holding faith “triumphantly to the end.” Obituaries were read by Miss Alice Braye. Solos were by Elmo Zachary and Mrs. Lomba Haley. Floral designs were numerous and beautiful. The cortege, one of the largest witnessed here recently, passed serenely landmarks familiar to Mrs. Jones. Burial was in the family plot in Calvary cemetery. She was the daughter of Edward and Mrs. Maria Robinson. Her father, an esteemed citizen, was the first colored juryman of Blackstone county VA. He moved to Norfolk after the death of his wife. Mrs. Jones was the widow of the late James Jones, who was the father of her 13 children. Ten of this number survive.
