Born July 18, 1918, in South Norfolk, she was the daughter of Daniel Wilson Lindsey and Martha Estelle Lindsey and was the widow of retired U.S. Army Col. Gordon Crowley Jones. Anna graduated from Randolph Macon College and later married Gordon C. Jones. Settling in Chesapeake after her husband’s retirement, she continued to teach in the Chesapeake school system. Her interest in travel, art, history and culture served her well as an educator and teacher. For more than 30 years she served on many boards and commissions including the Chesapeake Commission for the Arts, Friends of the Library, and the Norfolk County Historical Society. She was a longtime member of the Chrysler Museum as well as a member of The Colonial Dames, XVII of America. She is survived by her three children, Starr Jones Payton and Morgan Brewster Jones, both of Chesapeake, and Lawrence Lindsey Jones of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Leif Morgan-Geofrey Fortlouis, Susannah Lindsey Fortlouis, Travis Morgan Greenberg, Rachel Starr Payton and Jordan Brewster Jones; and one sister, Martha Gould. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, and 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
