Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, September 16, 2001 
Nellie Hill Jones, 83, of the 1200 block of Tidewater Drive, entered eternal
rest Sept. 12, 2001, at Harbour Pointe Medical and Rehabilitation Center.

``Nell,'' as she was affectionately called, was born in Sumter, S.C., to
Margaret and Robert Hill on May 18, 1918. She attended the public schools of
Norfolk and continued her educational pursuits by receiving a certificate from
the Booker T. Washington High School Sewing Program.

Nell was a member in good standing of the United Order of Tents, Southern
District No. 1 and many ministries of the First Baptist Church, Bute Street,
received her support.

Those who loved her in a special way are too numerous to list. However, those
close to her who mourn her loss and cherish her memory are two daughters, Cheryl
F. Ballance and Barbara L. Jones; two sons, James B. Jones and Alfonso J. Jones;
four grandchildren, Jessica L. Ballance, Kenny McLean, Courtney Q. Jones, Kevin
K. Jones; a sister-in-law, Mildred J. Nickens; and an uncle, Harold B. McFadden.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday at Graves Funeral Home by Dr. Robert
G. Murray with interment in Calvary Cemetery .
