Mrs. Eva M. Jones of 989 Rugby street died suddenly on Oct. 5 during a shopping 
tour with her son, Robert, age 10. Mrs. Jones became ill while riding a city 
transit bus. She got off and went into a drugstore where she collapsed. She was 
dead on arrival at a local hospital.

A native of Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Jones came to Portsmouth as a young woman. 
She was married in 1928 to Robert B. Jones, now a retired postal worker.

Survivors besides her husband are her mother, Mrs. Perry of Winston-Salem; two 
daughters, Mrs. Felicia Brown of New York and Miss Phyllis Jones, a senior at 
Booker T. Washington high school; a son, Robert; and other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted at Shiloh Baptist Church Sunday, Oct. 12, at 
1:30 p.m. by the Rev. W. H. Hamilton, pastor.
