Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, May 28, 2000 
Alda Davis Jones, 81, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Norfolk on Jan. 31, 1919, she was the only child of the late Milford and
Alda Thomas Davis. A 1936 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, she
attended the Norfolk Division of Virginia Union University. She retired from the
Norfolk Naval Supply Center after 25 years of service.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where she participated in
many programs including St. Monica's Guild, Mary Smith's Corner Bookstore,
SHARE, Wednesday Bible Class and the Seniors Choir.

She was a founding member of the Krazy Kats Klub, had worked with Girl Scout
Troop 86, and was a member of two bridge clubs.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Theodore Powell of
Chesapeake; a son and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Margaret Jones of Atlanta;
three grandsons, Timothy and Tyrone Harrod and Clyde Jones III; many other
family members and friends and her devoted canine companion, ``Cindy.''

A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Grace
Episcopal Church by the Rev. Harold Cobb. Family and friends will assemble at
913 Helmsdale Court at 11 a.m. for the procession.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Smith's Corner
Bookstore or the SHARE program at Grace Episcopal Church. Riddick Funeral
Service is handling arrangements.
