Virginian Pilot June 14, 1907


Miss Mary Bathurst Jones passed away at her home in Baltimore Wednesday at an 
advanced age of 77 years. The deceased was born in Norfolk and was the daughter 
of the late Walter F. Jones, who was one of the early postmasters of this city, 
who held that position when the post office was on the site where the present 
Citizen’s Bank stands.
Miss Jones is survived by a large number of relatives in Norfolk-the Taylors, 
Loyalls, Chamberlains, Whitties and others. She had not been a resident of Norfolk 
for a long period of years and had passed a considerable portion of the later 
years in Austraila and Honolulu. Although she had attained a ripe old age, her 
death was a surprise to her Norfolk relatives. He remains will arrive from 
Baltimore this morning, accompanied by her cousins, Capt. Robertson Taylor, of 
Baltimore and William Byrd Page, of Denver, Col. The funeral will be held from 
Chrit Episcopal Church at 10 a.m. today.

The remains of Miss Mary Bathhurst arrived here from Baltimore yesterday 
morning, accompanied by relatives accompanied by relatives. The funeral was 
solemnized from Christ Episcopal Church at 10 o’clock a.m., and was conducted 
by the rector, Rev. J.W. Morris, D.D. The interment was in Cedar Grove 
Cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: William Byrd Page, of Denver, Col.; 
Robertson Taylor, of Baltimore; Maj. R.C. Taylor, Col. Walter H. Taylor, J.C. 
Taylor, L. Page Taylor and Col. George W. Taylor, all of Norfolk, members of 
the family.
