NORFOLK - George W. Jones Jr., 70, of the 300 block of W. 37th St., a retired 
foreign language supervisor, died May 5, 1988, in a hospital.
Mr. Jones, a native of Norfolk, retired from Norfolk City Public Schools after 
38 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a graduate of 
Virginia Union University and received his master’s degree from Middlebury 
College in Vermont. He also studied at Ohio State University and Besancon 
University in France. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene J. Newsome Jones, and a daughter, Paulette J. 
Morant of Springfield, Va.
The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church 
by the Revs. Walter C. Barrett and Thomas J. Quinlan. Burial will be at 10 a.m. 
Thursday in the church cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at 6:30 
p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A memorial service by Omega Psi Phi 
will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Restoration Fund. 
Friends may join the family at the residence. Riddick Funeral Home is handling 
arrangements.
