Norfolk Virginian Pilot April 7, 1949


Dennis Earl Jones, 41, husband of Mrs. Annie Hughes Jones and son of the late 
Demsey B. and Mrs. Mary Spruill Jones, a native of Coinjock, N.C., and a 
resident of Poplar Branch, N.C., died in a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 5:45 
p.m.
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Mary Margaret Jones, and a son, 
Earl Douglass Jones, both of Poplar Branch’ three step-daughters, Mrs. C.M. 
Teseneer, Jr., of Shelby, N.C., Miss Emelie Ann Pruitt, of Poplar Branch, and 
Mrs. Ike Matthews, Jr., of Shawboro, N.C.; a step-son, David Paul Pruit, Jr., 
of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. C.H. Lewark, of Norfolk, and Mrs. 
Walter Hill, of Portsmouth; a brother, Ralph L. Jones, of Norfolk; a half-
sister, Mrs. W.G. Pruddock, of St. Augustine, Fla., and a half-brother, 
William M. Jones, of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral services will be conducted from at the Ewell and Williamson Funeral 
Home tomorrow at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Frank Hughes, Jr., pastor of the South 
Norfolk Baptist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
