Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, November 3, 2005
On Oct. 30, 2005, surrounded by family, Vera C. Jordan slipped into God’s 
merciful arms. She was born to the late Willie and Virginia Cartwright in 
Norfolk. She attended Norfolk public schools and Norfolk Division of Virginia 
State College. She was an organist and longterm substitute teacher for the 
Norfolk public schools. Vera was a former member of Macedonia UCC, where she 
began her music career. Vera was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, John 
Jordan and a daughter, Marjorie. Vera attended First Baptist Church Campostella 
Norfolk, where she ended her music career. She is survived by a daughter, Sherry 
Harrell (Gregory); a sister, Mildred Harold (Leavy); one granddaughter, Kendra 
Snell (Anthony); three great-granddaughters; and a special niece. A funeral will 
be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Campostella. Interment will 
be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Hale Funeral Home is in charge.
