Virginian Pilot November 1, 1908  
Ernest R. Joynes died suddenly at 9:20 o’clock Friday night in the 48th year of 
his age. He was well and intimately known in this city and section. He was born 
in Norfolk County, but had been a resident of Norfolk 23 years. For many years 
he was extensively engaged in real estate and rental businesses, first as a 
member of the firm of Townsend and Joynes, but latterly of the firm of E.R. 
Joynes & Son. He was possessed of a kind and generous disposition, which made 
for his a host of friends who will learn with sorrow of his death. The funeral 
will be held from his late residence, Granby and Thirtieth Streets, Park Place, 
at 3 o’clock, this afternoon and will be attended by the Masons and Elks, of 
which he was a member.
