Virginian-Pilot July 1, 1942
Mrs. Katherine Allen Joynes, aged 61, wife of Emmett S. Joynes, and daughter of 
the late Benjamin and Mrs. Ellen Welch Allen, a native of Baltimore, and for 
many years a resident of Norfolk, died yesterday morning at 8:10 o’clock at the 
residence, 3228 Verdun avenue. Besides her husband, Emmett S. Joynes, she is 
survived by two daughters, Mrs. C. F. Weaver and Mrs. R. L. Richardson, and a 
granddaughter, Miss Anna Catherine Weaver; a cousin, Mrs. L. N. Burlas, all of 
Norfolk, and several nieces and nephews, of Baltimore. The body will be taken 
from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue to St. Mary’s 
Church for services Thursday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will be held in 
St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments tonight at 8 o’clock.
