John Purcell Joynes Sr., of 2793 Monrovia drive, died at 2 a.m. July 21 at a 
local hospital following a very brief illness. Funeral services were held at 
2 p.m. July 25 at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. W. O. Deloatch, 
supply pastor, officiating.

Mr. Joynes was a native of the Eastern Shore of Virginia and spent most of 
his life in Norfolk. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jacob 
Joynes.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Helen E. Joynes; three daughters, Mrs. Delores 
J. Pettis of Chicago IL, Miss Natalie Joynes, and Miss Gwendolyn Joynes, of 
Norfolk; and one son, John P. Joynes Jr.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with Morning Glory Funeral Home in charge.
