About half past 8 o'clock yesterday morning, a man by the name of Jeremiah Kehoe, who is the owner of a number of cows and whose residence is on James Street, while driving his cattle along the Lambert's Point road, was met in the road a few hundred yards from Armistead's Bridge, by a vicious bull and gored so badly his life is despaired of. The wounded man was at once conveyed to the residence of Mr. W. J. Accinally, a short distance from the spot, and surgical assistance was sent for. Drs. T. B. Ward, George W. Townsend and Alex. Tunstall at once responded and the wounds were dressed, but we were told neither of the physicians entertained any hope of his recovery. There was a gash several inches long in the abdomen, through which the bowels protruded, another in the thigh and a severe wound in the temple. After his wounds were dressed, Mr. Kehoe was placed upon a door and conveyed to his residence. An eye witness of the tragedy, a negro woman, informed us that she was looking out of one of Mr. Accinally's windows at the time; saw the bull rush upon the man and pick him up on his horns; heard the flesh tear like a piece of wet cloth and then saw him dashed to the earth, while the animal trotted off with the cows. She also stated that she had been several times chased by the same animal, at one time being forced to jump into the marsh near the bridge and, at another time, making a narrow escape by crawling through a hole in the fence. We also heard from a number of other parties that the bull has been a terror to that section, having been allowed to roam at will through the roads, streets and vacant lots in the vicinity of the bridge and that he has repeatedly attempted to gore persons, white and black. The animal belongs to Mr. C. B. Llewellyn and the butchery of which we have written took place immediately in front of his gate. The animal has been complained of frequently and, we hope that, after such an awful example of his vicious power, he may be either killed or kept securely confined for the future. Mr. Kehoe is a man about seventy years of age (which fact makes greatly against him under the circumstances) and is universally respected by those who know him. The Rev. Father Hagan, of the Catholic Church, was on the spot yesterday to administer the consolations of religion to the sufferer.
