Virginian-Pilot  November 4 & 5, 1950
A body identified as that of Donald Kelley, 51, a certified public accountant of 
Norfolk, was discovered floating in the Elizabeth River off the West end of 
Plume Street yesterday about 7:30 a.m. Unmarried, he lived at the Navy YMCA.
Police Sgt. L. L. Jones, of the homicide squad, said that Kelley’s body showed 
no signs of violence and that death would be listed as an “accidental drowning.”
Wallace K. Buell, of Oak Hall, called police to the scene.
Assisting Jones in the investigation were Sgt. Ernest M. Towe and Patrolman L. 
Benton.
A native of Pennsylvania, he had lived in Norfolk about 25 years. He was a son 
of Mrs. Anne M. Kelley. He was a member of the Virginia Society of Accountants 
and was graduated from Catholic University, Washington.
A veteran of overseas service in World War II, he was an Air Corps bombardier. 
He and members of his squadron wore the Oak Leaf Cluster. He belonged to the 
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Besides his mother, he is survived by one brother, H. L. Kelley, and one sister, 
Mrs. Joseph H. Moore, both of Norfolk. The body is at the H. D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments.

KELLY, DONALD GLAVEY - On Friday, November 3, 1950, DONALD GLAVEY KELLY, son of 
Mrs. Anne M, and the late Patrick A. Kelly, in the 51st year of his age. Remains 
will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, to 
Christ the King Catholic Church, for services MONDAY MORNING at 10 o’clock. 
Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery.
