Kemp retired from government service at Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard, San Francisco, as a quarterman after being employed by the government 44 years. During World War II, Kemp was transferred from St. Julien’s Ammunition Depot, Portsmouth, to San Francisco. He was given the meritorious civilian award for outstanding performance of duty and was commended by the Secretary of the Navy for his work in accident prevention. A native of Norfolk, he was a son of William A. and Mrs. Marion J. Kemp. He lived at 4500 Mayflower Drive. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and International Association of Machinists Lodge 441. Besides his wife, Mrs. Agnes M. Kemp, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wiliam T. Wommack and Mrs. Theodore N. Bacalis; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph B. Ennis and Mrs. J. Henry Thumm; a brother, George P. Kemp; and two grandchildren, all of Norfolk. The Rosary will be recited in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Sunday at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
