Born in Norfolk, Virginia, to Robert Edward Lee Kennedy and Ann Henson Nelms. A 1952 graduate of Maury High School and 1956 graduate from VPI, now Virginia Tech. He was a partner in the architecture firm of Konikoff & Kennedy and then had an architectural business prior to joining the US Army Corps of Engineers in Fort Norfolk. A long-time resident of Norfolk, Va., he was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Previously, he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of the Irish-American Society of Tidewater and the Colonial Place & Riverview Civic League. He was past Commander of the Elizabeth River Power Squadron. Jack was survived by six children from his first marriage to Frances Wilson Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy Rodier (Tim), Robert Edward Kennedy (Ann), William Patrick Kennedy (Cindy), John Edward Kennedy Jr., Carol Kennedy Frazier (Chester), and James Everette Kennedy (Lisa); stepchildren, Teresa "Terri" Rivers and Tracey Burnett (John); grandchildren, Angela Kennedy, Kevin McCloskey, William Kennedy Jr., Cara Perkins, Christopher Frazier, Chester Frazier, Patrick Kennedy, and Brian Kennedy; and six great-grandchildren Noah Smith, Cooper Kennedy Caverno, Billie Perkins, Carlin Perkins, Kinsley Kennedy, and Brayden Kennedy. Jack was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Rivers-Kennedy, his siblings Kathryn Koolage, Marianne Moyer and Michael Kennedy, and granddaughter Kelly McCloskey. A visitation will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. on 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, on June 11th from 5 to 7 p.m. He will be interred at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk at a private service.
