Charles Russell Kidd, 50, of RFD 2, Norfolk, died at Norfolk General Hospital 
last night at 10:15 o’clock, less than two hours after he was struck by Norfolk 
Southern Railway locomotive No. 703 at the Sedgewick Street crossing in 
Riverside.
Kidd was a pedestrian when he was struck by the freight train heading east into 
the city. The accident occurred almost on the street crossing, police reported. 
Sam J. Bernham, of 2819 Kimball Terrace, was listed as the engineer.
Kidd was taken to the hospital by police who listed his injuries as a compound 
fracture of the left leg, lacerations about the entire body, internal, head, and 
other body injuries. 
The body was taken to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. Arrangements for the 
funeral had not been completed early today.
