Kilgore, of 28 Outten Street, Huntersville, was drowned yesterday afternoon while swimming in the vicinity of the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Ocean View division of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Traction Company. It was stated last night that the boy was paddling around in the water with several other young friends, but suddenly dropped out of sight and drowned before assistance could be secured. Ledger-Dispatch, Wed., June 10, 1908, pg. 7 The funeral of Alvah Baxter, the 10 year old son of Mrs. And Mrs. J.M. Kilgore, who was accidentally drowned yesterday at 5 o’clock in Tanner’s Creek, takes place at 3 p.m. tomorrow from the parents’ residence, No. 28 Outten Street, Huntersville, Rev. Dr. Vernon I’Anson and Rev. T. J. Taylor officiating. It seems that the little fellow was playing with other boys at the drawbridge, and while walking out on some iron pipes lost his balance, fell over and was drowned before assistance coud reach him. June 11, 1908, pg. 4 Alvah Baxter Kilgore The obsequies of Alvah Baxter Kilgore, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Kilgore, who was accidently drowned in Tanner’s Creek, will be held this afternoon at 3 o’clock from the residence of his parents 28 Outten Street, Huntersville, the Rev. T.J. Taylor officiating. The boy was ten years of age, and was playing in the water, and waked out over his depth on an iron pipe under the creek.
