Born in Bath, Maine, he was the son of the late Henry Lewis Kingsbury Sr. and Agnes Josephine Kingsbury. Mr. Kingsbury moved to Norfolk as a young child and graduated from Holy Trinity High School. He attended Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina and Catholic University prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Catholic University and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He received a Masters of Civil Engineering degree at North Carolina State University where he taught for several years. Mr. Kingsbury returned to Norfolk with his young family in 1952 and was employed by the U.S. Navy as a civil engineer. He was instrumental in the building of Norfolk Naval Base, Little Creek Amphibious Base and Oceana Naval Station. He became the head of the Atlantic Division Naval Facilities Engineering Command and retired after 30 years of service with the highest esteem and respect of his colleagues. Known as "Skeeter" to his family members and many of his friends, he was an avid fisherman and golfer and a longtime member of Bide-A-Wee Golf Club. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he contributed many years of active service, and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Mr. Kingsbury was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Marie Theresa Butt Kingsbury and a granddaughter, Rachel, and is survived by his eight children, Stephen F. Kingsbury of Hackettstown, N.J., John Michael Kingsbury of Virginia Beach, David L. Kingsbury of Virginia Beach, Karen M.K. Perreault of Norfolk, Thomas G. Kingsbury of Kill Devil Hills and Kathleen A. Kingsbury of Moyock, Laura E. West of Evergreen, Colo., and Lisa A. Glisson of Mechanicsville, Va.; and 18 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ the King Catholic Church by Father Bryan Rafferty. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or to a charity of one's choice.
