Kirby in the Fosburg Lumber company's dock at the foot of Liberty street yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock caused quite a gloom over that neighborhood. The little fellow and a brother about four years of age were amusing themselves by throwing sticks into the water when the unfortunate lost his hold on a railway trestle by the side of the dock and fell into the water head foremost. His brother ran for his mother and when he had notified her went for his grandfather, Capt. William H. Kirby, and by the time of their arrival the lad had been in the water some thirty minutes. The body was quickly recovered by Capt. W.H. French, but too late, as life was extinct. Drs. F.M. Morgan and F. Lawford were summoned, who did all they could to restore life. The mother, whose husband died three months ago, is grief stricken, as are the other relatives. He was the second of three boys. The funeral will be conducted from the residence this afternoon at 5:30 o'clock, Rev. R.A. Robinson, pastor of Colley Memorial Presbyterian Church, Atlantic City, officiating. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
