Virginius Lee Kirby, 64, died at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital yesterday at 1:15 a.m. after a long illness. He was the son of the late Thomas A. Kirby and Mrs. Virginia Lee Boulware Kirby. He was in the Army 30 years before his retirement in 1945 and was a veteran of both World War I and World War II. He received the Purple Heart in World War I and served in China during World War II. He was a member of Bruton Parish Church, in Williamsburg, of Owens Lodge 164, A.F. and A.M., and Williamsburg Lodge 6, A.F. and A.M. He was a native of Richmond and had been a resident of Williamsburg for many years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Ware Galt Kirby, of Williamsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Eugene C. Black, of Belmont, Mass., and one brother, James Lewis Kirby, of Norfolk. The body was removed to the Cox Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Moultrie Guerry, rector. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mrs. H.B.G. Galt. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
