H. Kirby, perhaps one among the best known citizens of the town, died Sunday night about 10 o'clock after two months illness of paralysis of the brain. He was in the 54th year of his age and leaves a widow, five sons and one daughter, a brother, Mr. William H, Kirby; two sisters, Mrs. John R. Hathaway and Mrs. M. Herbert. He was foreman at L.C. Jones' marine railway, which position he had held for 22 years. He was born in Norfolk, but had been a resident of Berkley 51 years. He was a consistent member of the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church and was superintendent of the Sunday school until a few days ago, when, because of his inability to attend, a successor was elected. He was also a member of Berkley Lodge No. 167, A.F. & A.M. The funeral will be conducted from the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The remains will be interred in Magnolia Cemetery. The Masons will turn out in a body. *********************************************************** The funeral of Mr. Geo. H. Kirby was conducted from the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The pastor, Rev. W.A. Slaymaker, assisted by Rev. Robert Gatewood, officiated The attendance, despite the day of merriment, was large. The music was very beautiful and appropriate. The remains were interred in Magnolia Cemetery with Masonic honors. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: From the Masons, - Geo. Bushell and S.W. Lyons From the Citizens - Messrs. I.O. Diggs, R.A. Graves, J.T. Parks, Sr., B.B. Botts, T.M. Jones and Dr. Geo. W. Wallace. The flowers contributed as a mark of esteem were very beautiful and abundant.
