Kirby, 69 years old, one of Berkley's best known citizens, died yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lawford hospital after an illness of six weeks. Captain Kirby had been in failing health several years. He served with distinction through the war between the States. At the close of the war he engaged in the steamboat business and was captain of several of the harbor steamers and tugs. For many years he was connected with the Baker Salvage Company. Later he was associated with the late L.C. Jones in the marine railway business. He was a charter member and adjutant of Niemeyer-Shaw Camp Confederate Veterans. He was a native of Richmond, but had spent 63 years of his life in this city. He was a son of the late George H. and Eliza Hope Kirby. He is survived by one son, John E. Kirby and a sister, Mrs. Melnot Herbert. He was a member of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church, at which church the funeral services will take place Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. A.W. Shaw will conduct the services and burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. ************************************************************************ KIRBY - At the Lawford hospital, Thursday afternoon, February 12, 1914, at 2 o'clock, after an illness of six weeks, Captain WILLIAM H. KIRBY, son of the late George H. and Mrs. Eliza Hope Kirby, of Richmond, aged 69 years, 3 months and 24 days. Funeral SATURDAY AFTERNOON, February 14, at 3 o'clock, in Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Friends of the family respectfully invited.
