He was ill only a few hours. He had been connected with the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association since its organization about 40 years ago and at the time of his death was its business manager, an office he had filled for 10 years. A native of Norfolk, he was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Army transport service. He was chief engineer aboard the Army transport Meade for many years and for two years was superintendent of the Chesapeake Ferry Company at Norfolk. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriett E. Kirby; a son, William H. Kirby; five daughters, Mrs. J. Lindsay Gunn, Mrs. Palmer L. Smith, Mrs. H.C. Fayen and Mrs. L.A. Daniel, all of Norfolk, and Mrs. Leonard B. George, of Staten Island; a sister, Mrs. George H. Stockton; three brothers, Stanley C. Kirby, Lewis R. Kirby and Sidney G. Kirby, all of Norfolk; 21 grandchildren and one great- grandchild. The body will be taken from the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to the Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church for funeral services tomorrow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. C.J. Hollingsworth, pastor of Lafayette Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Harold Mac Shield, pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.
