He lived in this area for most of his life. He was a retired, 30-year employee of Norfolk & Western Railway. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Other survivors include two step-daughters, Mrs. Betty Scherrep of Roanoke and Mrs. Anita Newman of Norfolk; five sisters, Mrs. Lola Lane, Mrs. Lela Lilley, and Mrs. Kathleen May of Elkton, Va., Mrs. Rosalee Leake of Harrisonburg, and Mrs. Glennis Bear of Waynesboro; three brothers, James Kite of Harrisonburg, Wayne Kite of Waynesboro, and Edwin Kite of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 17 nieces and nephews. A Christian Wake service will be said Thursday night at 7:30 in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
