The service was conducted by Rev. Father John J. Doherty and Rev. Father Schmelz, chaplain of St. Vincent’s hospital. Two solos were rendered by Mrs. James Hughes, “Lead Kindly Light,” and “Face to Face.” The funeral tributes were numerous and beautiful, among them a mammoth cross from the employees of the Old Dominion Cigar Company of Norfolk, of which the deceased was foreman: a “gates ajar” from the Old Dominion Cigar Company, and a standing harp from the Emeralds. The interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: L. W. Davis, M. F. Portlock, C. Lee Dudley, R. F. Lawler, Fred Neeb, John J. Regan, J. W. Dunston and W. J. O'Brien.
