Oliver Funeral Apts. July 2024 Janice Teresa Knapp, cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 12th with her family by her side. Born on April 26, 1951, in Alexander City, Alabama, to Pina and Johnnie Johnson, Janice moved to Norfolk, Virginia at the age of two, where she resided for her entire life. As a child, Janice was a member of Saint Pius Catholic Church in Norfolk, where she began her education. She later attended Norfolk Catholic High School and went on to receive her degree in Early Childhood Education from Old Dominion University. Janice was first and foremost a mother, bringing all of her talents and skills to bear in raising John and Tori Knapp, along with their many friends. She enjoyed playing the piano and leading sing-alongs for her children. Inspired by her family members in Naples, Italy, she had a deep love for Italian music and cooking Italian food. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Rick, throughout Europe. Janice's hobbies included gardening, creating artwork, and playing and enjoying music. She was an avid puzzler and enjoyed completing thousand-piece puzzles, sudoku, and crosswords. Janice cared deeply about educating children, including her own and any child she met. She was also a counselor to any parent of children with developmental needs, always offering her guidance and support. Janice was a person of strong values and principles, known for her compassion, dedication, and generosity. Her family and friends will forever remember her for her nurturing spirit, wisdom, and unwavering support. Janice is survived by her husband, Richard "Rick" N. Knapp; her son, John R. Knapp; John's wife, Francisca Stern; and her two loving grandsons, Owen Knapp and Noah Knapp. She will join her daughter, Victoria "Tori" N. Knapp, in heaven, where we know they will be singing Christmas songs in August together. Her brother, Jerry Johnson, his wife, Barbara Johnson, their children and grandchildren, her Zia Maria in Italy, her cousins Raffaella, Patrizia, Anna Maria, and all of her Italian relatives will miss her dearly. Her family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Thursday, July 18th, at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Norfolk, VA. There will be a visitation with the family at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments on Wednesday, July 17th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary's Home in Norfolk, VA, in honor of her daughter, Tori Knapp, and Janice's commitment to nurturing and helping children with developmental needs. Janice Teresa Knapp will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her.
