He was born March 20, 1920, to the late Rev. Samuel D. Koger and Lillie Allen Koger. He was a highly decorated veteran proudly serving in the U.S. Army Air Force, 8th Air Force, 100th Bomb Group where he received a Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, three Bronze Stars and many other decorations and citations. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Norfolk where he served as a deacon and usher. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a proud member of Gideons International. He is survived by his loving wife, Inez S. Koger of Norfolk; David L. Koger and wife Barbara A. of Connecticut; Curtis R. Koger Jr. and wife Deborah B. of Virginia Beach; three granddaughters, Leigh Ann Koger, Faith Ann Koger and Joy Elizabeth Koger; a grandson, Paul Russell Koger; three sisters, Carline Koger, Dorothy Koger, both of Patrick Springs and Christine Koger of Martinsville; two brothers, Rieves Koger and Allen Koger, both of Patrick Springs; and numerous other family and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Norfolk, with the Rev. Dick Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.
