She was the daughter of the late Daniel D. and Mrs. Anges Shields Bates and widow of William Casper Lamb. She was a native of Petersburg and had lived in Norfolk for more than 60 years. She operated a florist business in the 1000 block of Church Street for 10 years and was also a seamstress. She was a graduate of Norfolk Mission College and Vienna Institute of Dressmaking and Designing, New York City. She was a member of the Bible Union, St. Johns A.M.E. Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Lamb Hughes, and one aunt, Mrs. Ruth Bates McCoy, both of Norfolk; one granddaughter, Miss Gwendolyn Victoria Huges, of Hampton Institute, and one grandson, Louis L. Hughes Jr. The body was taken to the E.A. Hughes Funeral Home. Funeral service3s will be conducted at St. Johns A.M.E. Church, Bute Street, Wednesday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. J.R. Johnson, pastor of Emanuel A.M.E. Church, Portsmouth, and the Rev. E. Paul Simms, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Bute Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
