Norfolk Virginian Pilot Friday July 24, 1942
Mrs. Hattie Lovitt Land, aged 72, widow of John Shepherd Land and daughter 
of the late Robert C. and Mrs. Mary Wilkins Lovitt, died yesterday morning 
at 7:45 o'clock at a local hospital. Mrs. Land was a native of Norfolk 
County and a lifelong resident of this section, residing at 5 B Spotswood 
Manor Apartments, 522 Spotswood avenue, at the time of her death. She is 
survived by a daughter, Miss Elva Lovitt Land. Services will be held at the 
chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, Saturday 
at 12 o'clock noon, with the Rev. Taylor Willis, D.D., rector of Christ and 
St Luke's Church, of which Mrs. Land was a member, officiating. Interment 
will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
