Mrs. Eva J. Land, a former resident of Norfolk,died in Philadelphia, PA Monday,
May 13. Her body accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Viola Land Braye and a
sister, Mrs. Millie J. Thompson, and a dear friend, Mrs. Susie Ringgold, was
brought to the city for funeral and interment. Mr. Watkins Thompson, only
brother of the deceased arrived from Danville to attend the funeral. The funeral
party was met by Mrs. R. G. L. Paige and Mrs. Faulcon, aunts of Mrs. Braye. The
members of the out-of-town funeral party are stopping at the homes of Mrs. Paige
and Mr. and Mrs. John Harris of Calvert Street. Funeral services were held at
Shiloh Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member and conducted by Rev.
R. H. Bowling of First Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. B. B. Evans of the
United Presbyterian Church. Solos were rendered by Mr. Lawrence Harrison and Mr.
Charlie Joynes. Interment took place in Calvary Cemetery.
