Lane The news of the untimely death of Mr. Charles W.B. Lane, of Norfolk, at Vineland, N.J., Tuesday afternoon, was received with profound sorrow by his many friends in this city, where he was widely known and eminently popular. The deceased had been in failing health for several months and had been to Kingston, Jamaica, Crockett Springs and to the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, with the hope of restoring his health. At one time there were indications of his improvement, but he subsequently grew worse. Wednesday of last week he left the hospital in Baltimore, hoping that change of climate would be beneficial to him and went to Vineland, where he passed away at the home of his mother, Mrs. W.A. Brown. Mr Lane was born in the State of Ohio, but came to Norfolk some years ago from Kansas City, Mo. He first practiced law as a partner of Mr. Lawrence Waring, but later on practiced his profession alone. He was a gentleman of bright and genial qualities, warm-hearted and a general favorite with all who knew him. He was passionately fond of amateur theatricals and also of art and was president of the Norfolk Art League for some time. The deceased leaves three sisters, here --Mrs. G.F. Lyman, Mrs. C.R. Vance and Mrs. Cassell. Three years ago he married Mrs. Tuller, of Vineland, N.J., by whom he is survived. She is a sister of Mrs. George E. Bowden, Mrs. A.M. Lloyd and Mr. George Jones, of this city. A meeting of the Bar Association of Norfolk and Portsmouth was held at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, at which suitable action was taken in respect to the memory of the deceased. The remains will arrive here this morning over the New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk railway. The obsequies will be held from St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 4 o'clock this afternoon. ************************************************* Mr. Chas. W.B. Lane All that was mortal of Mr. Chas. W.B.
