Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark November 20, 1924

William Preston Lane, aged 77 years, died at the home of his son, H.P. Lane, 
13 Ohio street, South Norfolk, yesterday morning at 12:05 o'clock after an 
illness of three weeks.  Mr. Lane was born in Tyrell County, N.C., but had 
made his home in this section for 33 years and was well known and esteemed.  
He was a Confederate veteran, having served in Company F of the Fifth North 
Carolina Regiment.  He is survived by two sons, R.E. Lane, of Edenton, N.C. 
and H.P. Lane, of South Norfolk and 12 grandchildren.  Funeral services will 
be conducted at the residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Burial will be in 
Magnolia Cemetery.
