Lane, 76, widely known in South Norfolk as "Uncle Nooks" died suddenly at his home, 1044 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk, yesterday at 1:15 p.m. In earlier life Mr. Lane conducted what was known as Elmsly Market, where the City Hall now stands and owned the point of land from Twenty-second street, East Liberty and St. James Street to Poindexter Street. He was an active member of the South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church and of Oakdale Lodge 70, I.O.O.F., and was outstanding in civic movements in the community. A son of W.T. and Martha Clark Brinkley Lane, he was a lifelong resident of South Norfolk. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Cecil E. Hollowell and Mrs. Martha Light, both of South Norfolk. His wife, Mrs. Josephine Gray Lane died about 10 years ago. The body was taken to the Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk.
