Lanning and daughter of the late Charles and Mrs. Rosalie St. John Herndon, died Thursday at 2 p.m. at a Norfolk hospital. She was 62. She was a native of Fredericksburg and had lived in Norfolk for 39 years. Her home was at 1116 Westover Ave. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, of the Junior League and of the Colonial Dames. Besides her husband, surviving are two sons, Claude Murdaugh Bain, Jr. of Norfolk and St. John Bain of Cincinnati; four grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. C. Herndon Robinson, of Washington, D.C. The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to St. Andrew's Church for a funeral service Saturday at noon conducted by the Rev. Beverley Tucker White, rector. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family has said that expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
