Virginian-Pilot September 2, 1949
John B. Lawing, 81, retired postal employee, died at his home, 310 West 17th 
Street, yesterday at 6:15 p. m. A native of Charlotte, N.C., he had been a 
resident of this section for the past 45 years. He was the son of the late Joel 
M. and Mrs. Ann Hoover Lawing.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian Jarvis Lawing; two sisters, Mrs. Grace C. 
Jones and Miss Lola Lawing, both of Norfolk; three brothers, H. C. and C. D. 
Lawing, of Norfolk, and H. M. Lawing of Portsmouth, and several nieces and 
nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments 
tomorrow at 2 p.m. by the Rev. James R. Kennedy, associate pastor of the First 
Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
