Lawler, Contractor, Succumbs; Funeral Service Tuesday Edward Fenton Lawler, 58, well known plumbing and heating contractor and for many years an outstanding figure in business, religious and fraternal spheres of the city, died yesterday afternoon at his residence, 714 Graydon Park, following a heart attack. He was stricken while downtown and was taken to his home where he died at 2:30 p.m. News of Mr. Lawler's death came as a great shock to his many friends. He was not feeling well in the afternoon and went to the Medical Arts Building. He was stricken and was assisted into the pharmacy where he was examined by his physician, Dr. N.G. Wilson. He was carried to his residence where he died a few minutes after arrival. A native and life long resident of Norfolk, Mr. Lawler was the son of the late Joseph J. and Mrs. Mary Fenton Lawler,. He was president of the firm of Joseph J. Lawler and Company, on Boush Street, which firm was established by his father in 1870. In addition to his other connections, Mr. Lawler was State executive of the Virginia Code Authority for the Plumbing Industry until that, like other code agencies, was abolished through the Supreme Court's decision invalidating the NRA. Mr. Lawler yesterday mailed to Washington his final reports on his work in that connection. Mr. Lawler served as president of the State Master Plumbers Association for the year just ended. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was past exalted ruler of Norfolk Lodge 38, B.P.O. Elks and was a member of the Norfolk Country Club. Mr. Lawler took a keen interest in the small boat activities of this section. He derived much pleasure from his star-boat and took part in the various racing events in nearby waters. Besides his wife, Mrs. Cora M. Lawler, he is survived by a daughter, Miss Mary Frances Lawler; three sons, Robert Palmer Lawler, Edward Fenton Lawler, Jr. and Joseph John Lawler and four sisters, Misses Katherine F., Mary Alice, Elizabeth I. and Mary Louise Lawler. Funeral services will be conducted at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of which Mr. Lawler was a member, Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock.
