She was born in Norfolk to Robert Moore and Edith Jordan Fanney, graduated from Maury High School in 1937, and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary, Old Dominion University's predecessor institution. She and her husband, Webster Runaldue Lawler, moved to the North end of Virginia Beach in the late 1940s along with much of her extended family. Mrs. Lawler is survived by her son, W.R. "Buck" Lawler Jr. and his wife, Beth of Cary, N.C.; her daughter, Loren Wilee and husband, Paul of Chesapeake; brothers, William J. Fanney, Robert M. Fanney and spouse, Mary Anne and Benjamin C. Fanney and spouse, Jacqueline, all of Virginia Beach; nine grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Web and daughter, Sue, predeceased her in 1993 and 2004 respectively. A memorial service was held June 27 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. A funeral Mass will be scheduled for mid-July at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Virginia Beach.
