A lifelong resident of Norfolk, he was the husband of Mrs. Ann Egan Lawler. His parents were John and Mrs. Susan Shaw Lawler. He joined the old Bank of Commerce in 1896 and two years later took leave of absence for his service in the Spanish-American War. Returning, he worked in a variety of positions at the bank’s main office, finally as general utility. At his retirement late in 1953, he was feted by the bank officials and co- workers. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Besides his wife, surviving are one son Frank P. Lawler, also at the Bank of Commerce; one grandson, Beverly R. Lawler, and one granddaughter, Ann Lynn Lawler, all of Norfolk. The body will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Blessed Sacrament Church for funeral services Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
